Our Commitment to the Care of Our Service Dogs
United Disabilities Services has received questions from members of our community following the recent loss of a facility dog in the Warwick School District. While the dog was not trained, placed, or affiliated with UDS, we wanted to share our response and reaffirm our commitment to the health, safety, and well-being of the service dogs entrusted to our care.
Like so many in our community, we are deeply saddened by the loss of Callie. While she was not trained, placed, or affiliated with United Disabilities Services, we understand why this tragedy has deeply affected so many people.
Because this situation did not involve one of our service dogs, it would not be appropriate for us to comment on the specific circumstances or decisions made by others.
What we can share is our own commitment to the dogs entrusted to our care. The health, safety, and well-being of our service dogs are our highest priority. Our program includes established policies and training regarding the safe handling, transportation, and daily care of every dog in our program.
The trust placed in us by our clients, volunteers, and the community is something we take seriously. We remain committed to upholding the highest standards of care for every service dog entrusted to UDS.
Our thoughts are with the Warwick School District community, especially the students, staff, and all those who loved and cared for Callie as they continue to process this loss.
