On Tuesday, March 7th, Landisville Middle School 7th grade students continued a tradition that has been going on since 1995. For over 20 years, students have participated in a “Penny Wars” or “Pennies for Puppies” and have raised over $20,000 for the UDS Service Dogs Program.
Joining the LMS students Tuesday were longtime volunteers and friends of the Dog Program, Linda Rineer with Reece and Zandra Miller with Clifford.
Linda provided a demonstration for the students and answered questions about our program and how we train our dogs.
Zandra had an opportunity to tell students that her grandson, Scott and his service dog Phoenix were the inspiration for the very first Pennies for Puppies. She updated students on what Scott is doing these days and how important those years were for Scott who attended LMS in the mid-nineties.
UDSF and the UDS Service Dogs Program are proud and honored by the friendship and support of Landisville Middle School and the hundreds of 7th grade students that have participated in this fundraising event over the years. A very special thank you to Diane Anderson who has embraced this event for many years and her dedication and commitment has kept the Penny Wars going strong!
